Statement By and About Harvey L. Silver

Photographing the streets and landscapes of the country, I chronicled the musical, cultural and political movements of the times. Growing up in New York City, I was fortunate to record the images of iconic folksingers, blues artists and groups, including Pete Seeger, The Band, Joan Baez, Bonnie Raitt, Gram Parsons, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Byrds, Poco, Al Kooper, Eric Andersen, Buddy Guy, Dave Van Ronk and many others. I continue to photograph to this day…

Primarily through Getty Images, I am published in major media, including The New York Times, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, Rolling Stone, People, Boston Globe, USA Today, Smithsonian, Huffington Post, AOL, CNN and numerous other national and international publications, books, websites and networks, as well as documentary and independent films and videos. Through my filmmaker son, Nathan Silver, I’ve engaged in production and art department photography on his films, including the recent feature “Between the Temples” (2024, Sony Pictures Classics, Netflix).

I’ve had solo shows at the Arts Society of Kingston, Rhinebeck Bank and Starr Library. I’ve exhibited in the Gallery@Rhinebeck, Betsy Jacaruso Studio & Gallery, Gallery 40 in Poughkeepsie, and the Palmer Gallery at Vassar College, and in NYC at the EV Gallery. A group of my photographs are on display in the lobby collection of Radio Woodstock (100.1 WDST).
